What's Yoshoku?
Yoshoku (洋食, literally “Western food”) is a style of Japanese cuisine that developed from Western dishes introduced to Japan during the late 19th century, especially after the Meiji era. Rather than simply adapting European or American recipes, Japanese cooks adapted them using local ingredients, techniques, and flavours to create something distinctly Japanese.
Classic Yoshoku dishes include, omurice, beef stew, croquette, Japanese style beef steak, Napolitan Pasta and many more.
Yoshoku is loved because it represents fusion through adaptation.
Western ideas reimagined with Japanese attention to balance, presentation, and comfort. It is now considered a classic part of Japanese home cooking and restaurant culture.
